We offer a bespoke curriculum designed to excite young students through mythology, storytelling, and a role-model teacher.

Our curriculum weaves together the Latin language and Greek mythology.

Theory:

We alternate between Latin and mythology each week to mix the content up and to work different skills.

We utilise art, drama and english into our sessions through varied activities such as story-telling, drawing and reenacting myths.

Session Details:

The Program is entirely free. Each lesson is 45 mins long and either takes place before or after school depending on schedules. The club runs throughout the Primary School’s term dates. The students are in year 6 and the curriculum will include a balance of Latin language and Greek mythology. The classes are maximum 8 students large.

Total Length of Program:

The program runs throughout the Primary School term times. We intend to match student-teachers with schools as early in the term as possible.

Student-Teacher Matching:

Primary Schools that are nearby to a State Secondary School that offers Latin are good candidates for KidsDoClassics as the students will have the option to pursue the classics at a higher level in their education and even take them up at GCSE level.

We match Primary schools and student teachers based on location and hence match local primary schools to secondary school students.

Resources:

KidsDoClassics provides the resources for the learning as well as a student-teacher for each Primary School.

Why teach both Latin and Greek Mythology?

Latin

Half of our curriculum focuses on Latin, introducing the language to the kids and looking at basic grammar and vocabulary, in order to build a base for future learning. We use the Minimus textbook to guide the learning while using fun activities to reinforce the newly acquired knowledge.

Greek Mythology

The other side of our curriculum delves into the Greek Myths, improving the students’ oracy and story-telling abilities. Across the course, we cover many different myths and use a range of skills to learn about each one. A commonly asked question is why the Greek Myths instead of Roman myths? Effectively, the Romans admired the Greeks so much so that they copied everything the Greeks did - hence the Greek Myths are the original versions and are, in my opinion, better!
